Today's Comments

- Rascal Flatts is probably as heinous as Shania.

- Keith Urban is ridiculously talented, but he could certainly stand to be more country. But, he hasn't totally crossed over to the dark side (yet).

- Joe Nichols has the best voice I've heard in years and it's perfect for twanging. His latest songs have been great, traditional, twangy, fun. I fear he could easily make the jump to pop though. Usually having a porn star for a girlfriend isn't a good sign.

- I love Tracy Byrd, Tracy Lawrence, Mark Chesnutt and Joe Diffie because I can feel totally confident that they are going to deliver solid country and not pop.

- The same can be said for Darryle Singletary, but sadly, he is very underrated.

- Why is Alison Moorer considered alternative country? Sounds like great straightforward honky tonk to me.

- I have a lot of hope that Miranda Lambert will lead the way back to a twangier sound. She's pretty yee-haw.

Country Manifesto

I love country music. No, I mean I REALLY love it. I love old country, new country, country sung by men, country sung by women, country by groups, country by duos, slow country, fast country mid-tempo country, traditional country, "hot new" country, and western.

Now, here's what I need to clarify. While I do like some of that "hot new" country, I do NOT like POP country. This music is simply garbage and I anxiously await the return of traditional-sounding country.

I think this blog is long, long overdue. I actually think that recently, radio has turned a *little* bit back towards the traditional sound. But not nearly enough. In my perfect world, there would be no Rascal Flatts, and nobody would have ever heard of Jessica Andrews.

But let's cut to the chase: I blame it all on Shania Twain and Mutt Lange.

My basic truths:
- I will never deny that the man is unbelievably talented, but I will argue to the death that she is not.
- I consider her the greatest joke ever played on the American listening public. I sincerely believe Ashlee Simpson has more talent.
- She herself may have originally been countrier than corn bread, but her music is NOT. She has done some country songs, and I actually love some of the older ones. But in recent years, her music has been an assault to country. Party For Two?? That was heinous as a POP song, it's shameful that country stations played it.
- I do not care that millions of people apparently disagree with me; I care only about COUNTRY music.

So country it is!
